Contains SCU-19, CT-44 and speaker-mic jack cables. Allows FT-2DR to connect to a PC for WIRES-X Portable Digital Node (PDN) station, without requiring an HRI-200 interface unit.
Your FT-2DR will require the following firmware and WiRES-X software;

*FT-2D MAIN FW V3.10.
*FT-2D DSP FW V4.31.
*WiRES-X PC Software V1.50.

In order to hear audio from an analog station when in digital PDNS mode use these parts of the SCU-39 kit as follows; plug the CT-44
into your PC and the speaker-mic jack cables into your FT-2DR.
We do recommend you use the optional Yaesu speaker-mic for more convenient operation. Btw, SCU-19 only allows digital mode operation.

Re DSP updating using Windows 7; If a Windows 7 computer doesn't recognise the FT-2DR by not obtaining the appropriate driver and setting up a comms port then use the RT Systems FT-2DR "smart" cable which will locate the appropriate driver and set up a comms port.

Note; If you were using an HRI-200, but now want to use only your
FT-2DR and SCU-39 kit then you must apply for a second ID node registration in order to operate your FT-2DR in Portable Digital Node.

Additional notes re FT2D and Wires X PDN kindly supplied by Paul, VK2PKD...

The first YouTube/Yaesu link below talks about the new PDN modes. HRI mode 1 & 2, & PDN mode 1 & 2.

HRI mode 1 uses 2 radios just like the HRI 200, i.e. one as the node and the other radio to communicate to the node radio.

HRI mode 2 (Direct mode) uses only the FT2DR as a speaker/mic.
No second radio needed to assess the wires X network.

PDN: (Digital only communications; no analogue stations can connect)

Mode 1 Direct to the wires X network.

Mode 2 Direct & RF, The FT2DR acts as node to the wires X network as well a transmitting on RF locally. This will allow other stations to connect to the wires X network & locally to the node.

The above modes use the SCU 19 cable connected to the FT2DR and a computer running the Wires X software 1.5 & an internet connection. This can be a mobile hot spot (Phone/Cell modem) and does not need the UDP port settings like the HRI 200 requires.

The CT 44 is used to deliver analogue audio to the computer from room nodes that are ether analogue only or mixed mode rooms.
This is when the FT2DR is used in HRI mode.

The second YouTube/Yaesu link below takes you through the firmware and DSP update process. I had an issue with my Windows 7 re not seeing my FT2DR as a communications device, when I used the USB cable that come with the radio. The firmware (Main & Sub) update would work fine when the radio was switched in the update mode using the switch, but would not work in the normal mode (Switch in the middle position) to do the DSP update. I used my RT Systems (USB-68) cable to connect to the radio and update the DSP.
I now have the SCU 19 cable that will do the same job.

When fitting Yaesu YF-122S, YF-122C or YF-122CN filters into FT-857/D or FT-897/D or FT-817/ND series transceiver/s please ensure each filter's printed circuit board (PCB) will sit very close (within 2~3 millimetres) and parallel to the transceiver's PCB and that the filter's components face upwards! Please do not fit the filter board upside down. Push filter downwards very slowly and carefully, to fit!

Filter components must be clearly visible, as in above photo!
Please carefully read relevant transceiver's handbook re fitting filters!

YAESU ATAS-120A Now...$499 AUD AUTOMATIC Antenna Tuning System Plenty in stock! The ATAS-120A is a motor-driven mobile type vertical antenna. It has a continuously tunable frequency range of 7MHz~450Mz (40m to 70cm) and is fully remote controllable by FT-897/D, FT-857/D, FT-100/D and FT-847 transceivers. These transceivers will automatically tune an ATAS-120A to the point of lowest detected swr by driving its internal motor, which adjusts the antenna's length, thereby changing its resonant frequency. Maximum antenna length is 1.6m. Spare/replacement stainless steel whips are subject to availability. Please note that this antenna has an integrated PL-259 plug. This plug is also very well known as a UHF plug (in commercial radio) and as M-P, i.e. M-type plug (in Asian countries). It will screw into an SO-239 socket. Many amateurs buy an SO-239 side-entry socket, RG-58 coax & PL-259 plug assembly - or just a side-entry SO-239 socket - from us as the first step in installing an ATAS-120A. Almost ALL mobile VHF/UHF amateur radio antennas have a PL-259 integrated into their base section! These antennas require an SO-239 socket to plug into for operation! Recently, we found some new and long-standing amateurs were not aware of this requirement. Btw, freighting or mailing of antennas is at extra cost. We very rarely recommend mobile antennas be installed in any base station situation, due to mobile antennas typically having a higher angle of radiation and lower gain than most base station antennas. We have NEVER sold any brackets for mounting mobile antennas onto the metal roofs of buildings and have no intention of ever doing so. We don't recommend such mounting because large ground plane surface areas force radiation up into a high angle lobe. This effect applies to both transmitted and received signals and it seems to be most apparent on the higher frequency HF bands (e.g. on the 15m to 10m bands) and on the 6m band where most of the time DX (long distance) signals are received at relatively low radiation angles. We have found HF antennas, in particular, should be mounted at least 2m above any large metal surface area in order to reduce this effect. The larger the ground plane surface area, then the higher almost any antenna should be mounted. This is less of an issue on the lower HF bands, such as on the 160m and 80m bands where a large ground plane surface area is required! For many reasons, the higher the frequency of operation, the higher the antenna should be mounted. Btw, we do sell a Mobile One M270 2m/70cm mobile type fibreglass whip which has an integrated 5/16" brass thread ferrule base. This antenna normally mounts onto a cone shaped base with a 5/16" male thread. We sell PL-259 (at front of adaptor) to 5/16" (at rear) for the mounting of 5/16" ferrule mobile antennas onto SO-239 side-entry sockets. See photo below of a generic SO-239 side-entry base which accepts only RG-58 coaxial cable. The coaxial cable's centre conductor must be soldered to the internal centre pin of the side-entry antenna base.

Yaesu factory warranty and chargeable service notes
We are Yaesu (Japan) factory-authorised to perform warranty (where valid or applicable) and non-warranty (chargeable) repair service on ALL Yaesu amateur radio, airband radio and scanning receiver products existing in Australia and New Zealand. Yes, this service includes Yaesu amateur radio, airband radio and scanning receiver products sold by competing Yaesu factory-authorised sales dealers in Australia!!
Yes, we are warranty repairing Yaesu amateur radio (and scanning receiver) products for Strictly Ham and any/all other Yaesu factory-authorised amateur radio and scanning receiver sales dealers in Australia/New Zealand on behalf of Yaesu in Japan!
In fact, both Yaesu in Japan and ourselves have documentary evidence which proves we have most successfully repaired Yaesu amateur radio transceivers for Strictly Ham's Yaesu customers - and we are happy to continue doing so. Feel free to ask Yaesu to confirm our dealer status. Keep in mind that only Yaesu factory-authorised service dealers are authorised to repair Yaesu products under Yaesu factory-authorised warranty. Yes, Yaesu factory authorised "sales-only" dealers, such as Strictly Ham, are NOT Yaesu factory-authorised to repair Yaesu products under factory authorised warranty agreement or status!!
Beware of any Yaesu-authorised sales-only dealer falsely claiming they are also a Yaesu-authorised servicing dealer! We noticed a few years ago that a certain Yaesu sales-only authorised dealer, who was not Yaesu factory-authorised to service or repair any Yaesu products under warranty, falsely advertised that they were a Yaesu factory-authorised servicing dealer on the main Yaesu page of their website, using very small print. A few days later they had to remove that super-dodgy false claim. Shockingly, that dealer insinuates other dealers are dodgy! They should look into a mirror!
Andrews Communications is indeed a fully authorised real Yaesu sales and service centre for ALL Yaesu amateur radio, airband radio and scanning receiver products existing in Australia and New Zealand. ALL of our technicians are included in our Yaesu service agreements with Yaesu in Japan! RF Repairs is also a fully authorised Yaesu service centre for Yaesu amateur radio, airband radio and scanners!
Since Andrews Communications has become the KEY Australasian Yaesu factory-authorised sales and service dealer, Yaesu (Japan) has not needed to replace any more amateur radio transceivers under warranty conditions with new amateur radio transceivers due to any unresolved service issues - thank goodness! This was the No.1 concern of Yaesu Japan, as eight (8) faulty amateur radio transceivers were replaced during their warranty period prior to our appointment!!!
If you have purchased from ourselves or from an Australian or NZ Yaesu factory-authorised sales dealer either a Yaesu amateur radio, airband radio or scanning receiver product which has developed a warranty or non-warranty service issue, then you should contact BEFORE despatching any such repairs to us. Our Yaesu authorised service centre manager will advise you of the procedure re sending repairs to our Yaesu authorised service centre. Proof of purchase is required for ALL warranty claim Yaesu products!
The Yaesu factory-authorised warranty period of three (3) years applies only to Yaesu amateur radio, airband radios and scanning receivers - excluding batteries - when sold new by Australian Yaesu factory-authorised sales dealers. The Australian Yaesu factory-authorised warranty period of one (1) year applies to Yaesu batteries, amplifiers, accessories, etc. The Australian Yaesu factory-authorised warranty commences from the actual date of sale to the customer. Andrews Communications' 5-year warranty applies only to new Yaesu amateur radio transceivers sold new by Andrews Communications.
We will send warranty claim repaired Yaesu amateur radio, airband radio and scanning receiver products within the Yaesu factory-supported 3-year warranty period back to customers in Australia at our cost (as Yaesu in Japan usually reimburses us in this regard) - but ONLY if those repairs are proven and accepted as being undisputed warranty claims by ourselves, by our service centre and by Yaesu in Japan! The customer or dealer MUST pay for freight TO our service centre or TO Andrews Communications' shop.
We do NOT offer a replacement warranty on any product we sell, regardless of its brand, model, type, etc.
The customer must pay freight TO and FROM Andrews Communications store or RF Repairs re Yaesu products which are within Andrews Communications' supplementary 2-year warranty period. This warranty period is subsequent to the Yaesu factory-supported 3-year warranty period. The total warranty period is therefore 5 years! Yaesu product warranties are transferable ONLY within the Yaesu factory-supported 3-year initial warranty period. The customer or dealer must pay freight both ways re Yaesu products which have been repaired on a chargeable basis.
New Zealand customers MUST pay freight costs both ways (i.e. from NZ to AUS and from AUS to NZ) during the entire 5-year warranty period for ALL repairs and MUST also pay for ALL incidental costs, such as possibly from NZ or AUS Customs, etc.
The Yaesu factory-authorised 3-year warranty and the following Andrews Communications' 2-year warranty shall not apply to those Yaesu amateur radio transceivers which have suffered customer-caused or environment-caused or otherwise-caused (i.e. post-manufacturing) damage, such as by over-voltage, reverse polarity, moisture or water intrusion, excessive duty cycle, or due to neglect or accidental or intentional or unintentional damage, transmitting into >2:1 vswr or any other adverse operating or maintenance conditions.
The Yaesu factory-authorised 3-year warranty and the following Andrews Communications' 2-year warranty shall not apply to those Yaesu amateur radio transceivers which have suffered damage caused by nature (i.e. acts of God), such as by lightning, static, storm and tempest, or by moisture or water intrusion or deposition, etc.
The Yaesu factory-authorised initial 3-year warranty and the following Andrews Communications' 2-year warranty, regarding Yaesu amateur radio transceivers, is limited to repairing or replacing only those products which have proven manufacturing faults regarding parts or workmanship and specifically excludes consequential damage, etc.
Yaesu firmware upgrading is free within the initial Yaesu-supported 3-year warranty period only. Firmware upgrading is NOT free within the subsequent ACS-supported 2-year warranty period. All firmware is covered by warranty. Customer must pay for freighting their radio to us during any warranty period and also after any warranty period expires. Yaesu Japan reimburses us when we send Yaesu firmware updated radios back to the original purchaser of the radio but ONLY during the initial 3-year Yaesu-supported warranty period. After this initial Yaesu-supported warranty period expires the customer/owner must pay us to have their firmware-updated radio sent back to them.
A genuine sales receipt MUST accompany each warranty claim! Please include your name, address, email address and phone number. We do not sell products on a trial, test, approval or evaluation basis. Please note that warranty cover is NOT insurance cover!

This list is provided in order to clarify the Australia-specific (read AUS) versions and the general export (EXP) versions of Yaesu amateur radio transceivers, for the benefit of Australian amateur radio operators. Please note that of the twenty-five (25) transceivers listed below, eleven (11) are Australia-specific (AUS) versions and fourteen (14) are general export (EXP) versions. PACKING AND SHIPPING NOTES (A) We just received an FT-817 transceiver for chargeable repair. The customer was told by his friends to bubble-wrap the radio, then place it in a plastic bag, address it and mail it to us. When we received the radio we found two of its rear moulded aluminium heatsink fins had broken in transit, probably due to the radio not being fully or adequately bubble-wrapped. In the photo, you can see small holes perforating the plastic bag. We would have recommended, as an absolute minimum, the customer bubble-wrap the radio as well as possible, then place the radio in a stong cardboard box (not just a plastic bag), address the box and mail it to us. We strongly recommend double-boxing radios by packing them into a small box, then placing that small box into a larger box, with packing material placed in-between each box. Radios should be fully and properly bubble-wrapped. NEVER write <fragile> on anything you send us!
PACKING AND SHIPPING NOTES (B) When sending radios to us, please pack them well, such as into at least one strong cardboard box. Preferably double-box radios by firstly packing them into a small box, then place that small box into a large box. The small box should fit into the large box with at least 25mm of internal clearance. Use bubble-wrap or compress/roll individual sheets of paper around the radio and also in between the large and small boxes. Ensure front panel control knobs (especially VFO knobs) remain loose and free of contact with the box. Please do not fit radios into an old shoe box and then use an inadquate amount of packing material. See photo on the right of a shoe box we received which contained a Yaesu FT-857D that suffered some damage as a direct consequence of being inadequately packed. It was lucky it survived, hi! NEVER write <fragile> on anything you send us!

Our Yaesu history
In the late seventies we were authorised Bail Electronics dealers for Yaesu Musen commercial two-way radios. Bail Electronics was the first Yaesu Musen authorised factory-direct importer in Australia.
In the early eighties Dick Smith Electronics was appointed a Yaesu authorised factory-direct importer for Australia. We became a Dick Smith Electronics authorised Yaesu amateur radio dealer.
Around the year 2005, Benelec became the Yaesu authorised factory-direct importer for Australia. We became a Benelec authorised Yaesu dealer. Benelec firstly employed one of our top technicians, then another one, to repair Yaesu radios under Yaesu authorised status.
After about 3 years, Vertex Standard Australia (Yaesu) started up as the factory subsidiary of Vertex Standard (Japan) and effectively took over the importing, distribution and servicing of Yaesu/Vertex products from Benelec. It was managed by a person who had been employed by Icom Australia. That person chose not to appoint ACS as an authorised dealer on personal, not business, grounds. We were disappointed.
After about 4 years, Motorola purchased four main divisions of Vertex Standard. Around mid-February, 2012, Motorola sold back the amateur radio, marine radio and airband divisions to Yaesu Musen in Japan.
