RANGE/DISTANCE
Please note that the range achievable
by handheld transceivers is dependent upon many prevailing
conditions and as such may vary by a factor of greater than 10:1.
Please note that the range printed
on handheld transceiver boxes is a range estimate only, when
operating under excellent prevailing conditions.
Your choice of antenna mainly
determines the range achievable!
A short antenna will be best for short distance communications,
whereas a long antenna will be best for medium to long distance
communications.
Omnidirectional vertical antennas have a
radiation field pattern like a donut. The longer the vertical
antenna, the more squashed will be the pattern, which will result in
increased range/distance!
Please note that channels 22 and 23 are
allocated to telemetry and telecommand applications.
Voice
communications are NOT permitted on channels 22 and 23, so
transmissions are inhibited on these two channels. Channels 61, 62 &
63 are for future use. They are currently receive-only channels.
